What do Hedy Fry and the Taliban have in common?
IED, that’s what.
The Taliban use the IED or Improvised Explosive Device to kill Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan.
Fry, the veteran Vancouver Centre MP uses the IED or Idiotic Election Device, to kill the pride of Canadians in their military.
Fry’s IED, which she says is a product of the Liberal election arsenal, was launched in the town of Oromocto in New Brunswick last week, a community where nearly 70 percent of the residents are either military personnel or their dependents.
This community was developed around Canadian Forces Base Gagetown; one of the largest military training bases in the Commonwealth.
Here, anyone who questions the pride, passion and performance of Canadian soldiers seldom gets away untarnished.
Fry learned this lesson the hard way when her IED in the form of a Liberal election postcard with the weathered Canadian flag on a rucksack and the words “We used to wear it abroad with pride,” exploded in her face.
Oromocto residents were furious at the offensive message. Their elected officials demanded apologies. Fry and the Liberals went into deep retreat, blaming the Tories for deliberately taking their missive out of context.
The Liberals countered that the postcard was meant to show how Prime Minister Stephen Harper had tarnished the image of Canada abroad and that their message should not be construed as a slight against the military.
“I am extremely proud of our Canadian Forces and the work they do,” said a singed Fry as the Ignatieff-led Liberals track down the genius who drew up the postcard.
This episode is a telling example of how the arrogant Liberals think as they hunker down to fight the Tories in an election that nobody wants.
The Liberals are telling you and me that we can only be proud of our country, flag and institutions if their leader Michael Ignatieff becomes Canada’s boss.
Hence the Liberal campaign to badmouth Canada’s foreign policy, its military, its institutions and its credibility - which is all aimed to propagate that Canada is no longer worth being proud of.
Ignatieff unleashed another round of his balderdash to minimize Canada at the Canadian Club of Ottawa last week.
“The Conservatives are giving up Canada’s place in the world,” he preached.
“After the last four years, it’s hard to remember how much Canada once mattered,” he claimed, ignoring all the achievements of Canada and sidelining the sacrifices of Canadians.
We don’t matter anymore, said the prodigal professor condescendingly.
Well Iggy, we have a message for you too.
We do matter.
We are proud of our military and Canada despite your unpatriotic and untrue propaganda.
And like the good people of Oromocto, we too will be tearing up your flyers and postcards that land on our doorsteps asking for our votes.
Why?
Because unlike you, we don’t have to be a Liberal to be a proud Canadian.
