What has changed: The standard of living has improved. The price of local produce and land has gone up.
What have you done for your hometown: My family has donated cash to the hospital and gurdwara. We have also built new school classrooms and donated over 150 desks and chairs for students.
Born and raised in the village of Pohir in Punjab, Amarjit, 53, is a giant in BC’s auto-body repair industry. The owner of A-Class Autobody and Paint in Surrey has pioneered new techniques and new technologies in paints and materials since the store first opened in 1983. A-Class Autobody has one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings in BC, and has the distinction of being among the few shops accredited by ICBC for Earned Authority status. In his spare time, Amarjit is president of the Surrey Delta Punjabi Association which provides financial support for community organizations. A staunch believer in the importance of education, Amarjit is a founding member and current president of the SPARK Foundation. “The program is a partnership between Kwantlen, the Surrey School District and the SPARK Foundation to assist students in obtaining a university education who due to economic or cultural reasons may not attend otherwise,” says Amarjit.
