Born and brought up in the same town as Maharaja of Bikaner, Mr. Jasmail Singh Athwal moved from Sri Ganganagar to Canada in 1994. Coming from a small village that is home to only ten families, he misses the sense of unity that he felt in his neighborhood. Residing in Canada has not made him forget the convictions that he learnt growing up which he now passes onto his daughter. With no background in the construction industry, he bravely took a risk and opened up his business, Modern City Homes in 2001. Since then he believes he has achieved success and advanced his business. He has worked on many construction projects and has seen Surrey develop into a city in front of him. He likes to spend his time with his daughter and watch Kabbadi matches. He is a member of the Azad Kabbadi Club and Sikh Gurdwara Temple in Surrey. “Every night I visit my pind in my dreams. It is my home and haven. I miss everything about it,” says Mr. Athwal.
