UBC softball team recruits three local stars

The UBC Thunderbirds women's softball team has strengthened its roster with the addition of four new recruits for the upcoming NAIA season.
UBC head coach Phil Thom has received commitments from Quinn Dhaliwal, Brittany Hince Siwicki, Leanne Jung and Marga Sison.
“I'm very pleased to have the four recruits,” said Thom.  “All the players committed come in with good grades, have been batting well and have some good speed on the bases.”

Here's a look at the newest additions to the UBC softball team.

QUINN DHALIWAL (5'4” 2B, Delta, BC)
Quinn Dhaliwal is one of two graduates of the Softball Academy at Delta's Seaquam Secondary to join the Thunderbirds program.
Dhaliwal helped her club team, the White Rock Renegades '94, to a fourth-place finish at the 2012 BC U18A Provincial Championships in Victoria at the end of July.  The Renegades will take part in the 2012 U18 Women's Fast Pitch Canadian Championship in Montreal next week.
The 5-foot-4 second baseman says it has been her dream to play softball at the university level.
“Having the opportunity to play the sport that I love, at one of the top universities in all of Canada, was the deciding factor,” said Dhaliwal on coming to play at UBC.
Dhaliwal will work towards a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a goal of becoming a lawyer.

LEANNE JUNG (5'1” C/OF, Delta, BC)
Leanne Jung is another graduate of Seaquam Secondary's Softball Academy, where she picked up Most Valuable Player and Most Inspirational Player awards in 2011.
The 5-foot-1 catcher/outfielder played club ball with the Richmond Islanders '94.
“I chose UBC because it has a great kinesiology program, and the school has an overall great reputation, the whole package,” said Jung. “It has excellent academics, and it has excellent athletics and an excellent softball team.
Jung will begin her time at UBC in the Faculty of Arts.

MARGARITA SISON (5'4” C/3B, Richmond, BC)
Margarita Sison joins UBC after graduating from Richmond's J.N. Burnett Secondary.  She played alongside Dhaliwal on the White Rock Renegades '94 softball squad that finished fourth at the 2012 BC U18A Provincial Championships in Victoria.
"I chose UBC because I want to receive the best education I possibly can, which I know I will get at UBC plus I am getting the opportunity to continue playing the game I love," said the 5-foot-4 Sison.
She will enter UBC's Faculty of Arts in September but before that, Sison will join Dhaliwal and the rest of the Renegades '94 team in Montreal for the National Championships.
