Vancouver-born international dancer Deborah Dawson will lead her European music group at a series of events, including one this Friday at the PNE.
Of South Indian and Armenian origins, Deborah Dawson began her flamenco studies as the youngest dancer to be accepted in the Professional Training progam in Vancouver.
Her passion for flamenco brought her to Andalucia where she studied with acclaimed dancers such as Juana Amaya, Andres Peña, Mercedes Ruiz and Manuela Carpio. Her movements meld latin flavour, flamenco rythms and Indian mannerisms to create a truly personal style expressive of Les Noces Gitanes.
Les Noces Gitanes (The Gypsy Wedding) is an unlikely encounter of 8 international artists, including Deborah aka "La Caramelita".
Formed 6 years ago in France, the group’s originality lies in its showcasing of each artist’s musical specialty forming a magical fusion of styles including jazz, flamenco, swing, Bollywood, North African and Latin American rhythms.
Following the route of the gypsies as they explore themes from India to Andalucía this group of young musicians never fails to capture the eyes and ears of audiences worldwide. Recently, they performed in the international music festival "Terres du Son" and they have also been invited to perform at Le Havre upon return from Vancouver.
Join Les Noces Gitanes as they explore different musical genres through the marriage of sound and dance; the result is a true, multicultural "Gypsy Wedding".
Within Les Noces Gitanes lies two other formations: SOS Rumba and Martine on the Beach. SOS Rumba is made up of 4 of the musicians from Les Noces Gitanes, Deborah, Alejandro, Antoine and Daniel.
Their music is a mix of traditional flamenco beats, Latin American rhythms and festive rumbas from Barcelona, southern France, and Andalucia. In Martine on the Beach Aurelien and Florian narrate the adventures of Martine to the beats of clarinet and saxophone boosted electro-swing.
