Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, and Kelly Clarkson have all taken the path to stardom through singing competitions.
Could Frank Cena be next?
The Burnaby resident and UBC Sauder School of Business student beat out 326 other competitors to win Lough Sings, a competition hosted by Lougheed Town Centre, a Burnaby shopping and Coquitlam shopping destination.
He won the competition through a combination of judges scoring and public voting.
Cena, who has been acting and singing since grade two, started performing with the British Columbia Boys Choir in 2000. In the recent past, he beat out 900 Vancouver hopefuls to make it to the third round of Canadian Idol.
He wins a $4,900 scholarship to the Rockstar Academy Gold Singing program as well as a $500 shopping spree at Lougheed Town Centre.
Cena also wins two tickets to Madonna’s September 30 concert in Vancouver.
The Rockstar Academy scholarship includes 6 weeks of intensive classes with RSA coaches including former Canadian Idol and pop star Elise Estrada.
Stephen Scaccia, a resident of North Burnaby came in a close second and won a $500 gift card to Best Buy, compliments of Best Buy Mobile at Lougheed Town Centre.
Third place winner was Jessica Zraly of Coquitlam.
Hundreds of guests were in attendance and saw the finalists take the stage for a Glee style performance celebrating the music of the Queen of Pop, Madonna. The Lougheed Sings finale also featured a Madonna impersonator who did a rendition of "Vogue" and other selections.
The first 100 guests to arrive at the show were recipients of a free swag-bag compliments of Lougheed Town Centre and participating retailers, H&M, The Bay and Best Buy Mobile.
Lougheed Town Centra, a Burnaby shopping and Coquitlam shopping destination, is home to over 140 shops and services including H&M, Walmart, London Drugs, Safeway, and The Bay.
