Healthcare is a leading growth industry in BC.
As the province’s baby boomer curve slides into the 60’s and 70’s, healthcare demand will continue to outstrip supply.
There is a need for more healthcare workers of various skills: from doctors and nurses to healthcare office workers and assistants.
Trevor M from Victoria knew he wanted a career in which he could grow but also one in which he could help others.
Making the move into a new career, however, wasn’t easy for him given his learning disability.
“It took me years to decide to try and make a change in my life. I knew I wanted to do something that would let me help others but always held back because of my challenges with dyslexia,” he explained.
After meeting with Sprott Shaw College’s advisors, he received a boost to his confidence.
“I came in and talked about my fears and ended up feeling positive that I could actually do this. So I started the HCA program.”
Trevor benefited from the teaching style of the class and from the flexibility of the instructors to communicate the material in a way he would understand.
Today, he is set to start a new career as a healthcare assistant and to put his skills to work in helping others.
With thirteen campuses across BC and the Lower Mainland, and with numerous career courses, Sprott Shaw offers much flexibility for students, whether just out of high school or mature and with families.
Whether you are looking for Surrey nursing courses or an Abbotsford accounting program, Sprott Shaw has options for you.
