It is no secret that B.C. has an aging population.
The number of people over the age of 65 is expected to increase by more than 50 per cent in the next 10 years topping one million.
Nearly one quarter of them will be over the age of 80.
The growth in the seniors’ population and the aging of the seniors’ population is driving a huge demand for health care workers that cannot be met by the government alone. Sprott Shaw is expanding its registered Practical Nurses program to help meet the urgent need and is looking to train 5,000 plus Practical Nurses in the next 10 years.
One of the locations where BC’s largest private college is expanding its presence is in New Westminster where it recently opened a newly renovated, brand new location next to Douglas College.
More crucially, for students, the new Sprott Shaw College campus is just down the street from the New West Skytrain station. The campus is now 9,000 square feet, which is 2,000 more than at its old location on Eighth Avenue at 12th Street.
The training lab for licensed practical nurses at the new campus has impressed new students. It simulates a hospital ward complete with beds, dummy patients, and hospital equipment.
Students are able to practise injections, installing catheters and other nursing procedures.
The lab also has a teaching area with state-of-the-art visual equipment so the students know all the details of the anatomy they’re dealing with when doing those procedures.
With thirteen campuses across BC and the Lower Mainland, and with numerous career courses, Sprott Shaw offers much flexibility for students, whether just out of high school or mature and with families.
Whether you are looking for Surrey nursing courses or an Abbotsford accounting program, Sprott Shaw has options for you.
