When former long-time Canadian Living Magazine food editor Elizabeth Baird and her friend, Canadian food legend Rose Murray decided to write a cookbook on Canada’s favourite recipes they knew they wouldn’t be doing justice without including vibrant Asian and South Asian dishes.
“Those two cultures are playing a bigger role each decade as more people choose to settle here and bring their food tastes and recipes with them”, said Rose Murray. “The cookbook which includes delicious recipes such as pot stickers with chili-soy dipping sauce, hoisin glazed ribs, Bombay mussels, pad Thai, cardamom rice pudding and more.
“Just as Canadians have embraced foods from Italy, France, Spain and other European countries, they have enthusiastically included foods from Asia and South Asia among their favourites” said Elizabeth Baird.
With most Canadian grocery chains stocking Asian food, it is now very easy for all Canadians to try recipes from a wide variety of cultures.
“It is interesting to note that at one time, most Asian and South Asian ingredients came from these parts of the world, but manufacturers and farmers in Canada have seen business opportunities selling these foods,” said Baird.
“Mom and Pop stores to supermarkets stock and increasing variety of made-in-Canada Asian and South Asian ingredients.”
Canada’s Favourite Recipes cookbook is available in stores now and online now.
