They nourish the body and now they fill hearts also.
Guru Nanak's Free Kitchen (GNFK) handed out over 700 flowers and chocolates to women from the Downtown Eastside on Valentine's Day.
The trailblazing community group launched their inaugural Valentine's initiative this year.
Through canvassing efforts, GNFK raised $4200 from donors to purchase the flowers and chocolates which were handed out at 15 different shelters in the Lower Mainland.
The donors who contributed to the Valentine's mission included Daljit Thind of Thind Properties, Jolly Saluja, the Sandur family, Sukhvinder Kaur Vinning, and Rashpal and Mangal Sidhu of Cedarline Industries.
Tony Hui of 99 Nursery and Florists and Monique Poncelet of Daniel Le Chocolates Belge also contributed by discounting their prices for the flowers and chocolates.
"GNFK is dedicated to enriching people's lives through regular, sustained and meaningful volunteer service," said Roveen Kandola, GNFK council member. "We serve over 3,500 hot meals and drinks every month to the homeless communities. Our work is based on the basic humanitarian principles of sharing,
inclusiveness, community and public service."
