Nova Chiu is an emerging designer from London, UK.
Her journey began in 2006 when she enrolled at the Camberwell College of Art and Design. From there she continued her studies at the London College of Fashion studying BA Fashion Design Technology Surface Textiles.
In 2009 Chiu flew out to New York to intern with Anna Sui - it was there she met her now boyfriend and business partner, Jeff Archer, who also is a designer (Helen Lefeaux School of Fashion Design, Vancouver).
With the help of Jeff, Nova debuted her award-winning graduate collection Shangri-Ladida during London Fashion Week.
It was crowned the ‘Collection of the Year’.
Nova stated her inspiration for her designs were the ethnic groups in the Shangri-La region and the influence of her boyfriend’s designs. Nova’s collection has been described as an East meets West with the fusion of neon colours and 1980’s urban silhouettes.
For the upcoming Vancouver Fashion Week, Nova wants to concentrate on the use of embroidery and use more structured shapes.
She’s quoted as saying, “the garments are exciting, comfortable and fashion-forward modern.”
If you check out Nova’s looks online you can see she is not afraid of colour and patterns and uses them in the most unique items.
Nova Chiu will be making her debut in Vancouver during Vancouver Fashion Week’s Fall/Winter 2013 show.
Tickets are available through www.vanfashionweek.com.
