Vancouver Fashion Week
Designer Profile: Dandi Wind Opaine
Unique, young, fresh, forward are four words that describe Dandi Wind Opaine as a designer.
Opaine is our very own local designer - she grew up in Northern BC amongst the lush forest and glaciers that surround the small towns in beautiful British Columbia.
Opaine’s designs are strongly influenced by her roots and are all handmade right down the accessories.
She was taught by her grandmother how to knit and how to appreciate the scenery and environment around her.
Today she uses the influence of her grandmother in her winter line.
When describing what is expected from her for Vancouver Fashion Week, Opaine shows her passion for the environment by only using recycled/discarded organic fabrics and vintage items, including silk, cotton, and wool as well as hand dyed fabrics using ecologically friendly dyes.
She makes the statement that fashion can be environmentally friendly and still look amazing!
Opaine does not stop there - in her shows she incorporates performances, original music and sculptural elements.
Her goal is to propel Vancouver into the international fashion spotlight and hopes to one day see herself aside designers who’ve shown at NY, Paris and London fashion weeks.
