Vegetarians! Buffet-lovers! Rejoice!
Veggie Bunch has got yo’ back.
This is an inconspicuous little place, hiding just east of Brighouse Station in a less than obvious strip mall facing Buswell Road.
It’s modest and comfortable, with seating at the front and a buffet setup at the back, near the kitchen.
There’s a shelf where diners can collect their own plates and cutlery, a tea station, and prices range from $10.99 (lunch) to $12.99 (dinners, weekends, holidays), with kids’ meals (under 8 years) costing $6.99.
I settled myself in at a table, paid, grabbed a plate, and got down to the business of buffet-ing.
It wasn’t fancy food, but tasty and filling, and I especially liked the fried rice and sautéed greens. There were a number of deep-fried items on the menu, so if you’re totally afraid of deep-fried foods, this might not be your place.
Something else to note is that I saw just one ‘mock meat’ item, which was veggie sausage in with the braised daikon.
After I’d finished my meal and was sitting there, sipping tea, and wishing I had a bit of dessert, I watched as a man walked over to a freezer next to the plates/cutlery shelf and opened it up.
He grabbed a bowl, and began to scoop. Ice cream!
Yes, Veggie Bunch also includes ice cream in their buffet, and I helped myself to a scoop of Neopolitan, a flavour which I believe I last consumed at the age of nine.
It was a nostalgic and sweet way to finish my meatless meal.
Veggie Bunch is an affordable, casual option for anyone, and an easy place to bring a family.
What better way to get a child to finish their dinner than the promise of a freezer full of ice cream?
