The Spirit of Hola Mohallah is an upcoming exhibit that features the photography of Maninder Singh Sodhi.
Sodhi has been documenting the annual festival at Anandpur Sahib for the past 13 years.
“For me just being there at the festival of Hola Mohalla in Anandpur Sahib and documenting it is like being in a state of trance and experiencing the shear enthusiasm and devotion of the sangat which is unparalleled in any other sphere of life,” he said in an artist statement.
At Anandpur Sahib, Sodhi finds simplicity yet texture in the devotion to the Almighty of those present, all without an iota of doubt in their minds.
The spectrum of colours of Hola Mohalla conjures and confirms the magical nature of our existence.
Maninder father Mr. B.S. Sodhi was a President of India awardee for Excellence in Photography. As a boy, Sodhi spent long periods with his father, spellbound by his ability to print black and white photographs in his home made darkroom - a single dangling red bulb hanging overhead and serving as a metaphor of his father’s solitary focus on his craft.
The exhibition will be held at the Sikh Heritage Museum in Abbotsford, located across the street from the newer Khalsa Diwan Society Gurdwara at 33094 South Fraser Way, Abbotsford, BC.
The showing opens on Sunday, June 30th, at 1:30PM.
