Love to fish, or want to try, but don’t have time to travel? The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC may be stocking a pond near you. With its Fishing in the City program, the Society, in partnership with municipal and regional parks and the Provincial Fisheries Program, is bringing fishing closer to home for Metro Vancouver residents. Now you can avoid a long drive and still go fishing!
Starting in October, thousands of catchable sized rainbow trout will be released once again in North Vancouver (Rice Lake), Burnaby (Deer Lake), Coquitlam (Como and Lafarge lakes), Surrey (Green Timbers Lake), and Abbotsford (Mill Lake). And new this year: Vancouver’s only stocked fishing pond in Hastings Park, home to the PNE.
All of these Fishing in the City lakes have great shore or pier fishing and are stocked frequently throughout the fall and spring. Anglers may keep up to two trout per day. Remember though - anglers 16 years and older need a freshwater fishing licence before they go.
