The fair is closed and the crowds have gone, but fall fishing season at Hastings Park is just getting under way. If you happened to look down between screams riding the Atmosfear at Playland, you may have glimpsed Sanctuary Pond. We’ll forgive you if you missed it. Vancouver’s newest Fishing in the City location is still undiscovered by many.
Starting at the end of September, the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC will be releasing catchable sized rainbow trout into Sanctuary Pond in Hastings Park. All you need to go fishing is a rod and reel, basic tackle, and – if you’re 16 or older - a freshwater fishing licence. Anglers may keep up to two trout per day. Please note that fishing is only permitted from the dock at the south end of the pond.
Sanctuary Pond can be found at the south end of Hastings Park, between Renfrew Street and Playland. Parking is free in the closest lot, accessed from Renfrew Street. Better yet, ride your bike or take transit.
