Wrestling with art

Local social innovation film society Reel Causes is teaming up with the Vancouver Japanese Community Volunteer Association - Tonari Gumi, to present Zachary Heinzerling’s Oscar-nominated documentary, “Cutie and the Boxer.”
A reflection of love, sacrifice and the human spirit, “Cute and the Boxer” explores the enduring and endearing but sometimes chaotic 40-year marriage of renowned “boxing” painter Ushio Shinohara and his artist wife, Noriko. Spanning four decades, the film is a moving portrait of a couple with a challenging past wrestling with the present and future, against a backdrop of lives dedicated to art.
