Jinny Sims Hosts Re-Election Dinner

On Friday, March 27, local Member of Parliament Jinny Sims hosted a dinner to launch her re-election campaign. India Banquet Hall was packed with enthusiastic supporters who gathered to celebrate the work Sims has done since first-elected to Parliament in 2011, and prepare for the upcoming election.
A video reel of testimonials from local Surrey residents highlighted some of the cases Sims has championed over the past few years, drawing attention to the pressure she continues to place on the Federal government to fix its badly broken visitor visa system.  Tom Mulcair appeared via video – a surprise even to Sims – to talk about the outstanding role Sims has played in his shadow cabinet as Employment and Social Development critic.  He lauded her work on poverty, national childcare and better-paying, full-time jobs.
Following the video, Sims spoke to the crowd, which had standing-room only, about why she hopes she is trusted with the continued privilege of representing Surrey in the House of Commons after this year’s federal election.  She lamented the damage the Conservative government has done to Canada, failing to protect public healthcare, the environment and Canadians’ personal privacy.  Sims restated her priorities in Ottawa: a safer and more affordable Surrey.  She is fighting for more RCMP on our streets, something that the Conservatives promised in 2006 and failed to deliver; she wants jobs with decent wages, especially for young people; she wants fairness for seniors and a roll-back of OAS qualifying age from 67 to 65; she wants Canada Post door-to-door delivery restored; she wants to fix the broken visitor visa system, and she continues to work hard for a fairer Immigration system in this country – one that balances economic immigration with family reunification.
