Love to fish, or want to try, but just can’t face the traffic on long weekends?
Don’t particularly enjoy camping?
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC’s “Fishing in the City” program is bringing fishing closer to home for residents of Metro Vancouver.
The Society – in partnership with municipal and regional parks, and the Provincial Fisheries Program – may well be stocking trout into an urban lake near you. You could go fishing without even leaving town!
This spring, the Freshwater Fisheries Society has released thousands of catchable-sized rainbow trout into North Vancouver’s Rice Lake, Burnaby’s Deer Lake, Coquitlam’s Como and Lafarge lakes, Surrey’s Green Timbers Lake, Abbotsford’s Mill Lake, and Vancouver’s Sanctuary Pond in Hastings Park.
All of these Fishing in the City lakes are stocked bi-weekly to provide great shore- or pier- fishing throughout the spring and fall. Remember though – every angler 16 years and older needs a freshwater fishing licence, and can only keep up to two trout per day.
To find an urban fishing lake near you (along with fishing tips, stocking information, and how to buy your licence on-line), visit the Society’s website at gofishbc.com.
