If you’ve avoided the ballet because it requires an entire evening and knowledge of dance, you might have enjoyed last week’s inaugural event called “Babylon”. To introduce ballet to potential new patrons, The Social Concierge (creators of the Deighton Cup and Diner en Blanc) and Ballet BC partnered to reimagine ballet performances. Organizers created a cocktail environment and moved the ballet performance outside.
Guests arrived at 6:00pm to find the lobby and patio of the Queen Elizabeth Theater decorated with life size floral installations. After a series of small dance performances amid the audience, the main performance began at 8:00pm.
Dancers took the outdoor stage and performed a series of unique modern dance routines set to a several modern music genres. The performance lasted approximately 20-minutes and by 9:00pm some lingered as the DJ’s music played in the background.
