Four journalists from across the Indo-Pacific will soon be travelling to Canada under a new initiative by the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) aimed at strengthening global reporting on Canada’s role in the region.
The inaugural Indo-Pacific Media Fellowship program, backed by the Government of Canada, offers selected reporters up to C$10,000 each to conduct fieldwork in the country. Over the next year, the fellows will develop a series of original stories focused on key sectors like innovation, education, clean energy, and trade.
The fellows, chosen through a competitive application process, will each spend up to three weeks in Canada researching their stories.
APF Canada’s 2025–26 Indo-Pacific Media Fellows are:
Undral Amarsaikhan from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, plans to create a three-part multimedia series titled “Lessons from Canada,” exploring how Canada’s innovation ecosystem, climate resilience strategies, and education models can inform and inspire Mongolia and other Indo-Pacific countries. She is exploring field research opportunities in Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia.
Trang Bui from Hanoi, Vietnam, plans to produce a three-part series with data visualizations that explore the impact of Canadian firms looking to Vietnam to decouple from the U.S. on industries, supply chains, and consumers in Vietnam, with a focus on the interconnected solar panel industry and Canadian beef and pork. She is exploring field research opportunities in Ontario and Alberta.
Kiran Jacob from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, plans to produce three in-depth stories exploring how Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy is building economic bridges with Asia with a focus on building sovereign artificial intelligence compatibilities, synergies in hydrogen and clean energy transitions, and how small and medium enterprises can better grow, scale, and access each other’s markets. He is exploring field research opportunities in Ontario and British Columbia.
Yogi Tujuliarto from Jakarta, Indonesia, plans to create three feature television reports and a longform article exploring how Canada’s clean energy sector creates and supports green jobs, and to explore lessons, challenges, and innovations in hydro, wind, and solar initiatives in Canada that can inform Indonesia’s transition strategies as it seeks to reach net-zero by 2060. He is exploring field research opportunities in Ontario and British Columbia.
