More young girls pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and math – that’s the hope of Open Science Network, Vancouver’s first community science lab. STEM Mentoring Café program promotes science education for young girls through STEM programs and activities by connecting young girls with STEM professionals.
Two of the program’s participants, Crystal and Ruini, have been working with one of their mentor, Biologist and Neuroscientist Emily Fan, on developing a novel biocompatible material made out of chitosan and silk, with support from OSN’s President, Scott Pownall. TED Rogers Community Grant has recognized their work.
